Lake Como 5K Run/Walk Raises Awareness, Funds for Breast Cancer
Asbury Park Press | Terry Gauthier | March 26, 2011
Mary Ellen Pernice, AKA Mama Mare, was the chauffeur, chef and mom to anyone who entered her home and her life, and her outlook on life was to try to turn negative situations into positive ones, said her daughter, Krista Kasper. In December 2009, Pernice, 51, lost her battle with breast cancer. On Saturday, Kasper fulfilled a personal wish to continue in her mother's footsteps by turning a negative into a positive by conducting a 5-kilometer "De-Feet Breast Cancer" run/walk here. “When I lost my mother, I lost a huge part of me," Kasper said. So, about a year after her mother's death, Kasper founded the Mama Mare Breast Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds to assist breast cancer patients and support biomedical research.

“It’s not often that you get to work with people as professional, passionate and dedicated as Dennis and his staff at Audience Pleasers. They were my “secret weapon” in creating the WOW factor at my event. Dennis and his team immediately understood my vision and went above and beyond to exceed my expectations and bring all to reality. Their organization, creativity and attention to detail is an invaluable asset to any event,” said Krista Kasper, founder of The Mama Mare Breast Cancer Foundation Fund. Dennis Telischak, President of Audience Pleasers, helped set up the purple, pink and white balloons that transformed The Arline and Henry Schwartzman Courtyard of RWJUH. Balloon arches, columns and clusters surrounded the entire area!
